What is VOIP and Why Should I Care?
Over the last few years, an amazing revolution has occurred in telecommunications. It seems like everyone these days has a cellphone, and cellular communication has certainly been a big part of the telecommunications revolution. But there is another technology that is enabling exciting new things in the world of communications. This technology is called Voice Over Internet Protocol, or VOIP for short. The basic idea behind VOIP is that it provides people with a way to make telephone calls over an internet connection. Of course there are lots of technical details as to how this is accomplished. But the bottom line is that it provides people with reliable and portable telephone service at a much lower cost than the plain old telephone system they are used to. And this is not some pie-in-the-sky research technology - this is a technology that is available today from several VOIP service providers. Because of the amazing advantages and cost savings that VOIP telephony provides, these companies are growing by leaps and bounds as many thousands of new customers are signing up. The signs are very clear that VOIP is the direction in which telephone services will be going over the next decade. So here is why you should care about VOIP:

What is the Best VOIP Plan?
There are several good companies across the United States that offer VOIP services. The most well known of these is probably Vonage. Vonage has a wide selection of features and includes free calling to most countries in Western Europe. If you place a large number of international calls, Vonage is probably your best bet. But if you generally only call within the United States and Canada, or if you use less than 100 minutes per month of international calls, you will probably want to choose Sunrocket . Sunrocket is another very good VOIP company that has been growing recently by leaps and bounds because it provides terrific service at the lowest cost of the major VOIP providers. Even if you occasionally make longer calls to Western Europe, Sunrocket charges a super low 3 cents per minute, so your wallet will never take a major hit. Because of its excellent service and significant cost advantages, Sunrocket is the recommended choice for most people. For people with strong computer and technical skills, another option to consider is Via:Talk. Via:Talk offers low rates (comparable to good user review of Via:Talk. What Do I need?
The main requirement for getting VOIP phone service is that you must have a broadband ethernet connection, like DSL or cable internet. VOIP technology is built on top of the Internet Protocol, and therefore needs an internet connection to work. The internet connection must be broadband in order to get the best voice signal quality possible. The only other requeirement is that you must have a valid US or Puerto Rico shipping address, not a P.O. Box. To prevent any problems with fraudulent purchases, VOIP companies will only provide services to customers that have a valid physical shipping address. Questions?
